Ambleside was established in July 2012 by Pip and Kevin Maas. After years of traveling to the Great Smoky Mountains enjoying the outdoors and the warmth and hospitality of the people of East Tennessee, we decided to invest in our 'home away from home', our 'retreat to relaxation'.
Ambleside is a popular town in the Lake District of Cumbria in the Northwest region of the United Kingdom. It is a base camp for hiking, mountaineering and mountain bike riding and located on the shores of Lake Windermere. We visited the area several years ago when we went hiking in Cumbria.
The sights are breath-taking and the locals were truly down to earth, very similar to the people we have met over the years in East Tennessee. We decided on the name of Ambleside because of the similarity of the hiking and people from that area.
RETREAT TO RELAXATION:
Kevin recently retired after 38 years of working in the 'Corporate World' of Retail Management and decided his next venture would take a slower pace and involve meeting people that share his interest of the outdoors. His wife, Pip, a Brit transplanted from London, continues to practice as a Registered Nurse in a busy Critical Care setting and values the occasions when both she and Kevin can escape with their dogs, Sasha and Major, to the tranquility that is guaranteed at Ambleside Cabin.
Pip and Kevin have ensured that others who visit Ambleside Cabin will enjoy similar benefits of mountain life and their own opportunity to retreat to relax in quiet surroundings with comforts reminiscent of home.
